I had sat my goals to join the Aviation Industry and in 1991, I was recruited into the Air Traffic Services department of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Fiji (CAAF) as an Air Traffic Control Trainee. In 1991, I was promoted to the position of Flight Data Officer and subsequently obtained my “Rating” and license as Air Traffic Controller, providing Air Traffic Control Services in the Nadi Flight Information Region. In 2006, I was promoted to the position Air Traffic Control Instructor and in 2011, as a Senior Training Instructor and 2014 as the Controller Aviation Academy and Chief Instructor which I hold to date managing the Fiji Airports Aviation Academy (FAAA) which specializes in Air Traffic Services now globally known as the Air Traffic Management Training and other specialized Aviation training not offered by our local Universities or Institutions due to its specialized nature of trainings methods and requirements.
To be accepted in the Air Traffic Management Services in the field of Training and Manpower Development, one requires to hold or as held Ratings and licenses covering majority disciplines of Air Traffic Management and has attained a high level of English Language Proficiency, assessed and endorsed by the Aviation Regulatory Body – the, Civil Aviation Authority of the Fiji (CAAF) in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Standards.
I am one of the Examiners for English Language Proficiencies for Aviation.
I hold appropriate qualifications in the field of aviation in areas of Air Traffic Control, Pilot Briefing, Classroom and On-the-Job Training.
Have attended Seminars and Workshops organised by Fiji Employers Federation (FEF) in areas of Recruiting and Selection, How to Communicate Effectively, Manage Conflict and Negotiate Successfully and the Trainers Conferences held by Fiji National University( FNU).
Completed the Training of Trainers Modules and registered as a Training Officer with the Training and Productivity Authority of Fiji (TPAF),now absolved under FNU and Quality Management System Lead Auditor Course conducted by Aviation Consulting & Training PTY LTD of Australia. I also attended the ICAO Instructors Course held New Dehli, India in 2012.
Currently I am assisting our Projects Team with the implementation of a new Air Traffic Management System, commonly known as “Radar Control Services” which will put Fiji Aviation in par with the rest of the Aviation world.
My career has led me to specialize increasingly in Aviation Training and Management in particular Air Traffic Management and General Aviation Training.
To date I have a total of 31 years of working experience in which a total of 15 years was spent in the Air Traffic Control Roles and the last 16 years with Aviation Industry on Manpower Development and Training responsibilities.
All these experiences, has acquainted me with the required knowledge and skills to effectively and efficiently managing the FAAA.
