LIDA101 Digital literacies and why they're important for you

@mackiwg The learn-by-doing approach has been such an important method of learning and educating for myself over my early years of working and I believe in it so much. Early on in my career I was only volunteering to get some experiences but had been given the opportunity in building a online platform:globe_with_meridians:. A social:busts_in_silhouette: platform for members and communities to have a safe space online to discuss in forums:mega: around social issues and policy reform but also have the capability to host courses:mortar_board::books: around these different topics of discussion.

Without any sort of ICT experience or background with web developing or coding this was really a challenge. I would say the biggest skills that I think has translated whether in work, life or education is researching🔎 and evaluating or critical thinking🤔, have the ability to really know what sources of resources online is credible or not. To learn and teach myself about all the different components that we had to add to make the platfrom work.

That’s why I believe digital literacy is so important cause there’s a wealth of information and data now made readily available online and digital ready to be used. :hugs: Everyone just has to know and develop the skills needed to use them right and for good.
