Hi
As a Research scholar I must need Digital Literacy to obtain maximum benifits of OER.
Its very important for me to find new researches/studies related to my field.
@Mien nice, i actually love what you have written here. Very well articulated.
All the best with doing that @Farah_diba, remember you will need to acquire a range of activities to use digital devices, communication applications, and networks to access and manage the information.
Having to work around the digital literacy and learning to acquire the skill of digital world, i am hoping with this skill and knowledge i will be able to fully take teaching online. We live in a world where information is vital in our daily lives, hence the necessity to draw attention to Digital Literacy. We need to build a society dominated by Digital Literate people to improve communication and connect with the rest of the world.
@mackiwg well said all hands must be on deck to get get digital learning .
- In this hard times working at home I learned so much. I spend most of my time on the computer so I’ve learned how to create video and fun games for students using interesting websites.
- I would like to learn how to blog or try to make interesting chemistry simulations for students because sometimes it is really hard to find good, short simulations that can help students learn more effectively.
@karabomaloka I totally agree. Now is the best time to connect with the rest of the world.
- A deep knowledge of system processes and system architecture - understanding how the different elements within our in house software systems function together allows me to advise, inform and assist end users to complete a variety of tasks. I work as an educational technologist at a university assisting faculty to navigate a suite of software technologies. The equivalent of a “digital skill” would be doing a given task for them where as the “digital literacy” is the knowledge of the system that allows me to accurately advise them.
- A deep knowledge of computer coding - this would give me greater understanding and (creative) control of and within the virtual spaces I inhabit.
- In essence - no - knowledge is built and aggregated from a variety of input sources.
This is a good definition.
@megingle - I think a part of being digitally literate is to be able to identify the needs of those that may not be - the first time users - nice reflection.
@CitizenModerna I also agree that this course is helping me navigate through the web to gain more advanced digital skills to explore a wide variety of platforms to blog and reflect and interact with other students giving me a much broader understanding of the digital world.
@Karabomaloka Yes i agree we have to realise that digital literacy skills is getting more and more necessary with every passing year. As technology gets more advanced we need to constantly update our digital skills and literacy to be equipped for fast changing world. Its important to adapt to this era with confidence and be competent enough to use the platforms online to educate the future generation.
@mackiwg I agree that this course shows you new and interesting ways to use digital skills to support learning in this digital age. I also notice that you learn-by-doing…this practical platform will allow us to pick up the necessary digital skills to understand and embrace this new digital landscape and see how the different modes of communication can in fact overlap and make the learning experience much more interactive.
Well said
A digital literacy I’ve acquired is learning to use Microsoft Office and how to use the internet to source for relevant materials. In sourcing for materials, I’ve learnt about copyright and how to properly cite articles. These skills help me become a more rounded student.
A digital literacy I’d like to acquire is how to create and edit videos. Videos are a very important tool for digital learning. I think this will be especially useful when I become a professor.
I fully agree digital literacy really Matters
I have found digital literacy very useful to me especially in communication and in collaborations. Am now able to access information from the web and evaluate before communicating the same.
@mackiwg it is a hard concept to change when growing up people always told you there was a right and wrong answer. This is also something we need to help our learners get over when having discussion, as a persons point of view can lead the discussion in a completely different direction.
More and more, teaching and learning involved digital literacy and fluency. This is what I am finding in my work. I need to be increasingly digitally literate and fluent for my job; teaching students and communicating with students and colleagues. I also need to improve my digital literacy to improve my courses (teaching) and this will have a knock-on effect on my students learning and interest in my courses. This is one reason why digital literacy is important to me. Another is that I feel I am not digitally literate or digitally fluent and want to improve in these areas, mostly for work but also for me personally!
Totally agree! This phrase makes sense to me
