@Vishalni-18 Speaking in terms of an online learner, we faced a lot of challenges , one of the major difficulties was trying to adapt to virtual clinics and applying our knowledge to clinical scenarios where communication skills was very important to understand a patient.
Bula Shivani (@Vishalni-18) welcome to cs4odfl. For the benefit of others (non-medical personnel), would you like to elaborate on what you mean by virtual clinics?
Bula Peni, welcome to the course. I have never met an Air Traffic controller before - I am excited to see you in the course and hope to hear your perspective on ODFL side of things. #CS4ODFL
Hi Everyone I am Shivam. I conduct on-the-job training for the system that we support. The training is normally conducted in-house. I have been doing this for the last 5 years. The challenges are different staff has different learning capabilities, some are fast to grasp the concept. During my leisure time i usually engage in backyard farming.
Hi, my name is Vishwa Narayan, born in the Hidden Paradise of Fiji - Savusavu.
Employed with Fiji Airports as a Controller Aviation Academy managing the Fiji Airports Aviation Academy which specializes in Aviation Training and Manpower Developments.
I teach Air Traffic Services related subjects and have been teaching for the last 15years or so. My biggest challenge is doing “On-line” training which has become a norm recently due to Covid restrictions and protocols.
My best leisure is socializing with friends.
Planning and time management continues to be an interesting challenge as an educator who is now also trying to deliver this online. My experience over the last couple of years has required a combination of self reflection of teaching styles including listening to recordings of my tutorials, asking students to provide feedback on their learning and assessment activities, discussing these with fellow faculty, as well as ensuring it all aligns with what I’m supposed to be teaching (course outlines/objectives/clinical skills). It can become overwhelming so keeping it as simple as possible with regular communication has been helpful for me.
Bula Everyone
My name is Danial Maharaj. I have been in Fiji National University since 2014 in College of Engineering Science and Technology. I am teaching Mechanical Plant Engineering in School of Mechanical Engineering since then. The challenges which I have come across is mode of delivery of courses during this pandemic year 2020. Things went so sudden that time for preparation was not enough for online teaching. Moreover getting students prepared for online teaching was one of those rare challenges we thought of. More about my personal life, I love to spend time with my family whenever I get an opportunity from busy schedules and off course travelling is my hobby.
I would like to thank the facilitator of this course whereby I have started to learn a lot online teaching Netiquette.
Thanks
Danial Maharaj
Bula everyone,
I’m Sisilia Tabutoa, currently teaching Year 7 level and a general teacher. I’m stationed at the "Hub "of the sugar city (Lautoka) in Fiji. During my 15years of teaching, one of the most common challenges that I encounter is the use of digital platform in the teaching and learning to my students. Using such e - learning platforms requires skills and knowledge in order to overcome the obstacle.
However, the most activities that I would like to carry out in my leisure time are;
socializing
swimming
I’m thrill to be part to of this worthy course.
Hello Ronal. Hope you are doing great and staying safe from covid19 new variant. I would like to review and reply on your comment for a purposeful reason as you are a final year student and also a teacher in your field of interest. It is great to see an early engagement of you in both working and learning environment. This course is very beneficial to all of us but I somehow feel you are a person who can understand its need and importance of it during this pandemic from both imparting and receiving end.
Hello Shivam. On-The-Job Training sounds very interesting as I was engaged in similar role in 2013 when I was working as Mechanical Design Engineer in one of the Australian consultancy firms. It basically enhances your capabilities as well while engaging yourself with new staffs and learning a lot about different level of mind set of new workers. I would have been my pleasure if you could have mentioned your genre of work and types of on-job-training you involve yourself in. However I wish this course will definitely benefit you as most of the companies are having shift workers nowadays to avoid crowding at workplace and as such you will be able to design you training accordingly.
Hello and Bula vinaka to All.
My name is Josefata Wakolo and I have been teaching for over ten years in the Engineering Field under TVET Program.
The biggest challenges I currently face in teaching is the barrier of technology to education. Most students especially in the remote geological location, face challenges regarding to technology tools and connectivity. Some did not have access to internet and low-income students did not have a private place to study.
Bula
This is Roselyn Bibi from Bua. Am teaching in a rural school and my major teaching Field is Home Economic. I have been teaching for past 17years. Really feel enthusiastic to pass my knowledge and skills to young generation.
@DeepakPrasad my apologies for not explaining this term earlier, so virtual clinics is basically where we medical student attend to a patient online and using apps such as zoom to communicate with a patient and then we try to analyse what the patient might have and treat accordingly, since we cannot be visible present in a hospital setting to see patient due to the covid cases in Fiji, our school management found this method effective for us to apply our clinical knowledge and learn at the same time.
Hi Daniel. Thanks very much for your comment and very much appreciated. As you have already been in my boots sometime back, would you like to share with me how you manage to overcome the sort falls that you have mentioned about varying levels of mind set of new workers. I carry out preventative/corrective maintenance on Aeronautical facilities and the on-job-training revolves around that, as an example if we carry out a particular check then why that particular check is important, what implications will it have on system performance if it does not meet specifications and what needs to be done to correct the issue. I agree this course will definitely benefit me.
