- What in your view makes computer-mediated communications unique from a teaching perspective, or is it just old wine in new bottles?
Computer mediated communications has been made accessible through cheap data plans and are more efficient, effective for the long run and it has revolutionised teaching ideas to enable effective learning for students and even educators
Computer is fundamental to all teaching and learning these modern era. It enables each of us to complete our work well on time. Fiji needs to upgrade the networking system as years are going people are also changing and networking systems also needs to change to make people work easier and also provide network to the places were it is not available
I totally agree with your suggestion as networking systems has changed a lot of things
For e-learning initiatives to succeed, organizations and educational institutions must understand the benefits and limitations of different e-learning techniques and methods. Research can support practitioners by studying the impact of different factors on e-learningâs effectiveness. Two basic types of e-learning are commonly compared, asynchronous and synchronous. Until recently, e-learning initiatives mainly relied on asynchronous means for teaching and learning. However, recent improvements in technology and increasing bandwidth capabilities have led to the growing popularity of synchronous e-learning.
Communication through the computer - mediated is when any information can be seen and taken from the media and not first hand while teaching is can be first hand and focuses on a main perspective, for instance a topic or main idea,in my opinion.
In what I think implementing activities in synchronous environment by involving and engaging students in oral activities and group work or letâs say hands on activities. In an asynchronous environment could involve a projects and assignments along with quiz to complete in a certain time.
Strategies could be face timing lessons, open discussions on a topic and hands on activities involving use of concrete materials too.
Computer -mediated communications is unique in this modern and technology era. It makes communications faster and motivates students to learn since they are surrounded by computers. Set backs of this is that not all students has access to computers , it diverts students mind to which they are interested in and power failure halts teaching.
Synchronous learning is done through ZOOM where students could communicate face to face. Viber and MOODLE is also an effective way of learning which is asynchronous.
I would prefer face to face teaching and learning as this is most effective. But abnormal time , ZOOM is the best.
computer communication is very quick and efficient and flexible. Also, there are some platforms where we can do online learning activities at the same time at different places.
Participating in the student discussion forums, modeling proper discussion, adding your perspective on each topic, and responding to studentâs questions would show your students that you care about them and that you are there to support them.away act as friend to help students and get done to their standard of learning
Thank you and God bless you

What in your view makes computer-mediated communications unique from a teaching perspective, or is it just old wine in new bottles?
Some say that old is gold. But from my perspective is that the world is moving forward and the trend of teaching and learning are also changing. Globalization is is on the rise and the future of all forms of communication and business is shifting to online platforms. -
How would you implement the learning activities in both synchronous and asynchronous environments?
The ideas and the strategies learnt from this course will be very useful in both environments given the level of success that we encouraged our students to achieve. Some students prefer actual interaction and conversations with tutors. Some they prefer some time to absorb the content. which is to me, it is useful to consider both environments when teaching online -
What strategies will you use to maintain your teaching presence throughout the course?
Be constant with giving feedback of the students posting and responses, be there to guide and observe the students discussions on the forums, and ask frequent simple questions just to follow up presentations
We see a great advancements in Computer-mediated communications in last decade. Not only it enables any time from anywhere in own pace but sometimes acts as a guide to the learner in asynchronous environment too! (If a teachers guides the technology well
In asynchronous environments learning activities options are more and can be as creative as possible too! In synchronous environments learning activities may need more attention and creativity. As not just limiting to polls and Interactive White-boarding to do collaborative work, one can even think about making learners work in groups in synchronous environments for group tasks.
Coming to maintaining teaching presence throughout the course, I may think of having Chat and discussion activities where my presence is active enough to be close to the learners. And giving opportunity to learners to request for a synchronous session if required.
Yes. It is very important to have a blue print on discussion questions / discussion topics in a course while designing the course.
It is basically about teaching and learning so in my view it is old wine in a new bottle in the sense that it is the same thing but the manner in which it is conducted or executed is different.
In a synchronous environment, being in a face to face scenario, I have a perfect opportunity to explain and clarify matters of importance to my students before they start doing the activities. Things like time frames, deadlines, schedules and instructions on where to post their completed activities on the preferred communication ecosystem.
On the question of Teacher presence, I could have devised a clear schedule on having a class forum to be done on a regular basis. Hopefully, during these forums, their issues can be dealt with. Furthermore, I could encourage them to message me at any time whenever they have problems.

- Computer - mediated communication
In my view, computer - mediated communication is unique in the sense that:
a. it allows teaching and learning to take place between the teacher and the student despite their location. The teacher could be in one country while the students could be from other countries around the world.
b. it allows students to progress with their learning at the time convenient to them. Despite the difference in the time zone, students can access their learning materials online at whatever time of the day suitable to them.
c. despite the distance between the teacher and the students or the differences in the time zone they are in, the student can still have an active engagement in their learning with their teacher through computer mediated communication by attending the online live lessons through zoom or whatever platform used.
- Using Synchronous and Asynchronous communication.
Synchronous and asynchronous communication can both be used in a lesson by conducting a live lesson through zoom or google classroom or any other platform and allow questions or discussions between the teacher and students. The teacher can also record the lesson conducted and post it online for any student who may have missed out on the live lesson that was delivered through zoom or other platform. The teacher can also create a discussion forum whereby activities or discussion questions for students can be uploaded. Students will attempt them at a time convenient to them. Teachers can also assess students activities or answers and provide immediate feedback to the students on their performance.
- Teaching Presence
Teaching presence can be maintained by having regular online live lessons with your students to allow students to have a more active interaction with you through the delivery of the lesson content, answering of questions or an open discussion with students on a particular issue.
Teaching presence can also be maintained when teachers attend to questions post by students through the discussion forum instantly and regularly. Promote positive and constructive discussions amongst students in the forum. Providing regular feedback on their assessment and performance.
Yes, also agree that if we look at it from another perspective, it is also just like an old wine placed in a new bottle.
Yes, giving learning activities through synchronous communication involve active engagement orally or group work and hands on activities in real time. Whereas asynchronous communication involves activities that can be done at their own time, which is not going to be in real time.
âComputer-mediated communication (CMC) is an umbrella term that encompasses various forms of communication through networked computers (i.e., videoconferencing, phone calls, email messages, etc.). While most students are familiar with the various forms of CMC, this may be the first time that most students have had to rely on it as the primary vehicle for relationship-buildingâ good question professor @DeepakPrasad thank you.
Thank you @Jack.sewen for good comment
Computer-mediated communication is distinctive in that it is rapid, effective, and unrestricted by space or time. This has a lot of great benefits, including flexibility. Whenever, wherever communication is possible. Online learning activities take place concurrently with chronological time. While asynchronous learning activities can be conducted through online discussions and assignments that encourage students to learn at their own pace** and on their own time, synchronous learning activities can be implemented through instant messaging,
