In my view, computer learning is very precise. it gives an individual the ability and space to toggle through many ways to understand a topic or subject taught and time. computer learning takes you to a comfortable environment for you to concentrate well on the subject taught and not to your own typical classroom.

In synchronous: zoom meetings will be provided for students
In asynchronous: there will be activities given out for children to take part in and have them do projects for understanding

I will encourage more video messages and lessons and one to one calls for better understanding

What in your view makes computer-mediated communications unique from a teaching perspective, or is it just old wine in new bottles?

Computer-mediated communications is very unique with many reasons where we can say nowadays computer is very important when it comes to communication. Everything nowadays are digitally supported communication where work is to be done staring up a screen rather than digging through the papers. Weaknesses are being computer literate and be able to cope in this digital education system.

How would you implement the learning activities in both synchronous and asynchronous environments?

Synchronous Learning is best described is learning most effectively through interactive applications such as zoom, Moodle and Google classroom. Asynchronous environments is where using the application for interactive teaching and learning through presentations and discussions on the lessons taught.

What strategies will you use to maintain your teaching presence throughout the course?

Maintaining teaching presence is very important throughout the entire journey of the course. In this modern world nowadays zoom classes and Microsoft teams and other applications are making it very easier for teachers to be present for the classes they teach. As a teacher is will use the recent application students are familiar with to carry out teaching and learning to make myself present there for the students through the duration of the course.

Computer-medicated communications is unique from a teaching perspective is that it break down geographical barriers and it allow communication between parties in a time flexible manner and enables collaboration through communication over distance. Learning activities can be made in both synchronous and asynchronous environments. The synchronous environment can be established by applications like Zoom, Discord and google meet. The asynchronous environment can be established through online forums, discussion forums . some of the strategies i will use to maintain my teaching presence is that create a video based orientation, make the syllabus more interactive and take part in the discussion forum with the students.

  • I think it is old wine slightly tweaked and placed in a new bottle

  • Learning activities such as live discussions on (synchronous) platforms such as zoom and discussion forums on (asynchronous) platforms such as Moodle

  • Strategies such as frequent use of course announcements

I agree with the weakness pointed out with the need to be computer literate. What do you think will help bridge this gap?

Your mention of one to one calls for better understanding may be a bit difficult especially with greater class number

Yes, for small classes and even with bigger classes. It’ll be acceptable if a student calls for further clarification on a study for better understanding. It will be recommended for students to call rather than teachers to call.

Hi Priya. Thanks for sharing and reiterating that (CMC) to be something used in the past and also in the present.

Hi Aman.
Yes, I totally agree with you. Computer mediated communication is only one of its kind which concedes time and provides room for partakers to retort.

To my knowledge, asynchronous teaching is best for students residing in areas that have poor network connections where they can save videos and notes on their devices and study at their own pace.

Computer-mediated communications facilitates interaction between the teacher and students, and also between students themselves. It also fosters the negotiation of meaning. The students feel comfortable when CMC is used. With the help of Computer mediated communications, language learners can interact with native speakers of the target language easily at anytime and anywhere. Additionally, CMC ensures superiority in reach. Compared to face-to-face communication, CMC enables users to reach out to a vast number of receivers simultaneously. This is particularly useful when it comes to informing a large group of people about the same thing.

Computer-mediated communication is made unique in the form of teaching by the use of technologies to compensate for real time interactivity. A well designed learning and effective communication will bring forth unique form of teaching. It is unique because of its ability to support high levels of responsive, intelligent interaction between a teacher and a student while simultaneously providing high levels of freedom of time and a place to engage in interactivity.

Instructional interactivity is when an active learner participates in the form of synchronous learning such as zoom, Moodle and Google classroom and in an asynchronous learning process such as recorded videos.

In the instructional/ teaching process, I would in cooperate teaching presence by communicating and creating opportunities for students to have more meaningful and engaging conversations by having discussion forums, zoom classes and through emails.

Hi
The notion of flexibility by using both Synchronous and Asynchronous form of learning is well thought out. Indeed, maintaining a teaching presence is very important throughout the entire course.

The main design differences are that the content is primarily text based rather than oral , the online discussion is mainly asynchronous rather than synchronous, and the course content is available at anytime from anywhere with an Internet connection.

The benefits of synchronous and asynchronous e-learning are plenty. Utilizing both methods to create a complete course gives your learners the highest chance to succeed .

The strategies I will use to maintain teaching presence throughout the course are participating in the student discussion forums, modeling proper discussion , adding your perspective on each topic, and responding to student’s questions would show your students that you care about them and that you are there to support them.

  • I believe that computer mediated is becoming an important tool in teaching and learning at this time.

  • Live discussions on (synchronous) platforms such as zoom, google meet, webmer and discussion forums on (asynchronous) platforms such as Moodle

  • the strategy that I will use is that I will make myself available to students when ever they need.

Believe Fiji is yet to explore these areas of learning. There are a great number of ways that computer - mediated communicates from a teaching perspective. Especially when bringing animated; or videos involved in your teachings; it makes the subject taught very real and understood by participants. Some audience understand well through visual, animations, etc than just plain teacher - student verbal talks. Synchronous works well in most settings; this platform is good example of effective implementation and engagement of teacher and student; i could at any time comment to a post or addon my thoughts to a topic. Time is not an issue, yet one could still feel actively engaged in discussions. I would prefer the asynchronous method; as there are a lot of tasks and deadlines on my plate, and I can always work around to attend to the course suiting to my schedule.

Computer mediated communication is unique in that it is convenient, efficient, quick and not bound by time or location. The flexible nature ensures communication with anyone, anywhere and anytime.

I would use Apps such as viber, zoom or google classroom for both synchronous and asynchronous environments. These are readily available and accessible by the majority, whilst Moodle is licensed.

Prompt responses via discussion forums, emails and/or messages would ensure the presence of the tutor/educator throughout the course.

We in rural areas face network issue. These days most of us use mobile to access important information and there are less need for radio.

I do agree. In my context, iunstable nternet connectivity and cost of data are challenges that make online learning a challenge.
