As a teacher, I believe that it is not just a job but a vocation and my aim is to nurture and mould my students to be positive future citizens who believe in their abilities
My students should be able to learn through examples of what it means to be faithful in school, work and play
Active learning technique for synchronous would be live chats and video based lesson tutorial and for asynchronous , Id prefer notes and videos sent through emails.
Why? chats /video based tutorials would b easy and faster to communicate with my online students and for Asynchronous email is most suitable since students can access their lessons when they are ready.
I guess i am the odd one out as i do not have any teaching experience, however i believe the duty of teacher is to plan, prepare and deliver content in the most efficient way possible for students. The main thing students are to get out of a teaching is that student understand that particular concept and are confident enough to be able to apply that knowledge to real life situations. Some of the active learning techniques that i have been taught and i think that method is most effective for us medical students is what we call problem based learning (PBL) and case scenario discussionâs where we are presented with a case and we have to brainstorm and discuss the case as a group and this can be done in both synchronous and asynchronous environment, and i believe this method is most effective because not only students are using their own knowledge but they also share their knowledge with others and do cognitive thinking as a whole group and learn at the same time.
The teaching profession has always got my attention, mainly because they are considered to establish the foundation for all student, without teachers there are no students and they are an important asset to the world and i do wish to enter this field in future.
To begin with, I believe the job of the teacher is to motivate, encourage and educate the learners for making them become good citizens and enhance the 21st century learning skills for their survival. Moreover, from my teaching I would like to see the cognitive and holistic development of students being able to solve any real life situation or problem by having the skills and abilities required for problem-solving and making wise decisions. Furthermore, the active learning techniques for online learning in both synchronous and asynchronous environments can include; firstly, use of case study questions related to the real life situations as part of the forum discussions; secondly, creation of interactive sessions, responding to learners responses on the forums, and finally, use of audio and visuals for allowing students to better understand the concepts.
Discuss forum is an active technique to engage learners effectively but should be guided by rules and necessary netiquette. Also, Self-assessment quiz is also engaging and learners look out for it.
The fundamental premise of being a teacher is to add value to the learning of each student in your care . The act of teaching should be able to focus on enabling students to learn more than they would on their own, and to improve the possibilities that each student can realise their potential regardless of their situation in life.
Through clear teacher modeling and scaffolding, students learn to engage in metacognition and meaningful discussion . Typically, much of our studentsâ school day is spent sitting passively, listening, reading, and working individually to solve problems. We provide them opportunities to learn, but far fewer chances to teach.
Moving your class sessions to a virtual space, such as Zoom video conferencing, brings new opportunities for active learning and student engagement. This resource provides simple strategies that combine active learning principles with online tools so students can encounter and engage with information and ideas, and reflect on their learning. These strategies apply to both small and large class sizes, subject to the participant limit of your video conferencing program and license.
Well said Madam. Yeah teachers are Jack of all trades.
Indeed the teacher imparts knowledge, good values, tradition, modern-day challenges and ways to resolve them within students. Immediate feedbacks need to be given to the students.
Module 3- Forum Discussion
As a teacher, I believe that my job is not just restricted to delivering the content to be studied and improving studentâs academic performance but also helping in their holistic development as a person to prosper in life. Learning does not end at school and therefore I would want my learners to be able to inculcate the required skills and attributes to help solve problems in real life scenarios and prosper in life as a good human-being. In addition, I would like my students to become inquisitive learners; that is learn from every aspect of life and not act like they know everything.
Students learn best when they are actively engaged and thus for the live face to face lecture sessions on Google Meet, I would ask questions to students, make them try out a mnemonic device to learn the first 20 elements of the Periodic table, create a flowchart together or even do the class activity with the students itself; this will help to create a good and strong rapport with the students. For the asynchronous aspect of learning through online means, questions would be posted on the forum discussion platform on Moodle and I as a teacher would make it engaging by placing real life scenarios and having students to think back and relate to the question being asked or provide their own perspective. As a teacher, my job is not only to create a discussion forum and just leave it there but also be actively engaged with the students in the discussion by giving them prompt replies and also boosting their morale.
Well written and to the point. Yes, indeed learning is deemed fun and interesting when your students are actively involved in the class and therefore I believe that teachers should be ever-ready with their baskets of teaching strategies to best provide quality education.
I agree with your points Dipshika. Indeed teachers job is to help in the holistic development of the students and engagement of students are essential for effective learning environment. The engagement of teachers with the students on the discussion forums will indeed give students prompt replies and will enable them to boost their morale.
I agree with your thoughts that as teachers nurture and mould students to be positive future citizens who believe in their abilities.
mere,
I also agree that before teaching we have to prepare lessons properly and then implement in the classroom. This way it will be very helpful and learning will take place.
Thank you
As a teacher my job is to Prepare for the lesson, teach students in any way possible and also to motivate students to learn. I would like to see my students to come to class each day ready to learn. I want them to be prepared, focused, and motivated and enjoy the learning process and to be active participants in the learning process.
I would use both synchronous and Asynchronous environment because there are some learners that might benefit from synchronous environments, where as some students might prefer asynchronous ones. Moreover, extroverted personalities can thrive in synchronous classes, while introverted personalities can succeed in asynchronous courses.
Because of students we are in school. A passionate teacher will always take the challenge and teach the children with love and care because most of their hours are spent with teachers. Students have their favorite teachers and the subject that is taught by that particular teacher and it is noticeable that in final exams they achieve quality marks because they what is taught is gained by that particular teacher.
Thus as teachers we have to make our class interesting by using interesting tools that makes students curious to learn and do more research. Example while teaching literature related videos or audios can be played as an example. During this pandemic we are using Zoom, Teams, Viber, google classroom, Moodle or special fb page is created for students to use messenger. these online classes are the only possible ways to reach to the students . At times teachers or schools help students with data to access notes and activity. where all students.
At the end of the day what makes us proud as a teacher that the objective that is set for the day is met when students go home with a smile that what ever is taught, they have gained
Worst to worst scenario we make our way to see the well being of our child teachers do home visits and at the same time they also provide printed notes and activity.
Hi
I agree with your views. As a teacher we are doing our best to educate students and in return we expect our student to be confident, comfortable and able to learn what we teach them.
Thank you.
hi.
Agree with you but during this pandemic students are connected with their friends through fb and instagram
i agree on your point of idea yes students need love and care
HI Raju,
I agree with your views. we as teachers have various roles to play in school. In return we want our students to learn at get quality education.
Thank you.
During this pandemic teaching is a challenge for teachers. As in passion of teaching love and duty of care is the most important weapon. As teachers while planning and preparing we have to keep each students caliber of learning in our mind. teaching is not just dictating notes or giving printed copies that student will learn by his/herself. They need teachers support.
teachers have faced challenges in this difficult time and tried their best to assist their students in all possible ways. As a teacher the biggest gift is the quality pass and what ever is taught is gained by their students.
It is the responsibility of a teacher to make the class interesting using related videos/audios.
We have used Zoom, Google classroom, Viber, Teams, FB, and Moodle to get connected to our children to deliver quality lessons. In some cases teachers have done home visits to see the wellbeing of their students and delivered the notes/activities.
hi Dipshika
I agree on your idea.
A teacher should always prepare before entering a classroom. A doctor kills one person at a time but a teacher kills 40 students at a time by giving wrong information
