Well said. Every teacher would try to gives his or her best to get the best results.
I deal mostly with adults who are already in the work force who have met the baseline or MQR for entry.
An embarrassing situation is when changes or updates have been made to required documentation or procedure and we are still referring to previous documentation or using “obsolete” documentation for referencing which is available in the public domain and suddenly a students points this out, thus the need to prepare current and valid training materials before delivery.
In education, teaching is the concerted sharing of knowledge and experience which consists of getting students involved in the active construction of knowledge. This process of teaching and learning brings with itself teachable and learning moments; making the entire process a memorable one. Similarly, while teaching my Biology students the concept of adaptive features, one of the Accounting students got really interested to know how actually the ants are able to communicate when they search for food and this memorable experience was created with the use of videos on adaptive features of organisms that I had played during the lesson.
I had also encountered a negative experience in teaching whereby students, who were smart, used to shout out the answers and as a result, the timid ones remained quiet and became discouraged to participate in class. Some of the proactive measures I can employ to put a stop to this behaviour are by laying out the expectations of my class such as Raise hand/switch on microphone/write on the chat box if you wish to speak, complete their assigned task on time, listen attentively and make short notes (new terminologies), ask questions when in doubt and feel free to contact me via email or contact on viber. Another measure I as a teacher can take is to involve students in the decision making process; that is, when deciding on the classroom rules, ask students if they agree with the rule and why plus also mention the consequences if the rules are broken. This way, students will be aware of the repercussion of their actions and would help the teacher to manage the classroom more efficiently, minimizing any disciplinary mishaps in the future.
Madam you managed to change a students life for the better

This world needs great teachers like you for everyone to succeed in life.
Madam, students are indeed blessed to be taught by a teacher like you. You are their inspiration

In my teaching career,I had face both negative and positive teaching experience with students. The teaching and learning is one of the top priorities given where the students leave their parents and stay for eight hours with the teachers in the learning institutes. This place is where every now and then we have to take moral talks with our students. It is one of the memorable experience that I face was in discussion class.
The positive is that I involve all students on mat for discussion everyday, where all students will be in-front of me and nearer. I always encourage the shy child to sit in front of the raw. There was a child
who was very quite and sitting at the back of a girl. As the school has started and it was only second weeks where I came across that the child is a inclusive child and needs lots of attention. The child used to play with the girls hair. I tried to stop him as I do not want that child to be sitting alone or far from anyone. I tried to stop him but he was still doing it. The best idea came to me was to talk with the child’s parents. When I had discussion with the mother of the child then came across that the child cannot hear. I was assuming that as the child was giving very less attention towards my words, but he was trained of reading lips.
The negative side of my teaching was that I am not a trained inclusive teacher to communicate with a inclusive child. Which was even a difficult time for me to look after this child for whole of the first term till the child was taken to the special school.
Later, I had done more inclusive units in my bachelor of education where I can handle a inclusive child if I came across in my life.
Good morning sir,
I totally agree that we all teacher’s went through this new platform of teaching in this ongoing crisis. But if looking this online classes learning then we all had learn and upgraded ourselves with new technologies and it’s advance systems with multiple tools to work with our students
Hi
Really appreciated your experience sharing. I also faced the same with my year 5s. To support what you have shared, I used learning games eg, flash cards, snake and ladder and picture games.
The memorable time in my teaching experience was the day when I saw my students practicing what I taught them in the classroom. One day, I taught them the 7 steps of hand washing in my Healthy Living lessons through demonstration and the next day I can see them practicing the 7 steps of hand washing during recess and lunch time.
It was a memorable experience because I saw that my teaching was effective and it positively impacted the life of my students.
We need ensure that we know and understand the proactive behaviors inoder for us to create and promote a positive communication environment. The proactive behaviors are as follows:
• Always reply or comment in a positive way.
• Always post and reply in a respectful manner.
• Always use simple and appropriate words.
Agree with your view that everyday is a challenge for teachers. And during this crisis we also learnt a lot through technology
The teaching experience involved teaching online Year 9 Commercial Studies topic on Source Documents, and it was a new topic for the students whereby I identified that a good performing student was not responding to the class discussions via Google Meet platform. This teaching experience was memorable because it was my first online teaching class after the current pandemic situation which led to the shift from face to face learning to online learning. Thus, the student was finding it difficult to use the digital tools for learning.
Proactive Measures:
- Implementation of both qualitative and quantitative rules for online classes and discussion forums. For instance, rules on the content and quality of the posts such as no abusive language and rated caption pictures, use of proper English language with complete sentences; setting out quantitative rules regarding posting of forums by the end of the week and replying to only two or three students forums, hence, expressing the desired expectations of the students in regards to posting and replying of forum discussions.
- Invitation for queries through a separate online forum whereby students can contact the instructor for guidance, support and queries regarding the discussion topics.
- Counseling can be done for students who find it difficult or feel shy to attempt the discussion forums.
- Awareness of the online forum discussion netiquette is essential to highlight the desired level of behavior of students in posting and replying on the chat rooms and discussion forums.
- Giving feedbacks to students on their performances on discussion boards to highlight the room for improvements and increasing the interaction between peers.
I agree with all the proactive measures that have been identified and appreciated the involvement of students as part of the classroom management rules as the learning is for the learners.
I agree that setting clear expectations is a proactive measure as students will become aware of their DO’s and DONT’s.
Thank you, Ms. Nand, it is indeed crucial to being proactive rather than react. It is a great idea to analyze all thoughts before a decision is finalized in class
As teachers we are encountered by both positive and negative experiences and we try our best to solve them in every little way possible.
a positive experience was seeing a student achieve his /her goals and a negative experience is loosing a student(dropout) due to family problems and health issues.
students success makes every teacher proud and seeing them fall also makes us wonder what went wrong.
yes, it is far better to be both a normal and inclusive teacher, so that we are readily available for all our students
1). As, a Teacher we all have encountered a negative or positive experience, mine ill go with a positive experience where a student progressed marvelously.
2). As many of us feel uncomfortable with sharing ideas In-front of others in fear of rejection, I would put in a format where they would be allowed to pass in written notes with the ideas.
I come across teaching students belonging to different age cohorts and the senior students sometimes do not like to be taught by a person who is younger than them in some cases. I had a student (late 30’s) who would constantly disagree with my feedback and marks given. She would be taking the scripts to the course coordinator and requesting it to be reassessed.
I personally approached the student and asked her to visit my office so we could go over the submission script against the marking rubric. I explained/justified to her why each comment was given, what was really expected and how that can be improved further. Since that day she never had issues with the feedback given by me in the specific course and later in another course.
Not one teacher could say that they have not gone through such difficult time in a classroom or during the class, we all have but the only difference is the way we handle the situation. There was this student in Year 10 who happens to be ignored by all teachers that entered that particular classroom as a result of his ignorance and misbehavior. The English teacher was absent in that particular day and I had to step up for supervision when he starts to do his usual everyday mundane attitude and oh manh! I was challenged, spiritually, mentally and physically. I almost given up on him, then I went to him while all the other students were doing their own work while he was just talking and being a bully towards all the students. I went to him and ask him what is the problem, and why is he acting the way he did when he replied and we talked which then calmed him down and was able to cope and understand the effect he has on the other students during the class.
Well that was before, but coming through to this last session, I really could use a lot of measure and strategies of dealing with students. I believe that it is always best to act upon the situation rather that reacting to the situation.
Exactly, not all of us teachers are familiar with the ways that technology works but, I think we have to find one way or the other to try and learn innovative strategies of teaching and move along with time.
