Their can’t be learning without the two
I agree that during this pandemic, assessment as and for learning in quite important for student to learn effectively according to their own pace.
The three forms of assessment are very vital in the learning process. Since 2017, my school focus on those three forms of assessments. Students were access through their daily activities and participation, through quiz, test, group presentation, practical and student design work and Exams at the end of the course. Forms of Assessments depends on teacher’s scheme of work and daily lesson plans. As practiced in my school, common assessment test were conducted for every three weeks, and final exams towards the end of the year.
Thanks for this explanation. For those of us in developing nation, we need to move very swiftly to this new method of assessment
Bula…yes…i like to assess my students as they learn through oral questionning and activities and i believe that is assessment for learning. in this assessment i can clearly gauge how students have grasped what is being taught and also gices me a clear picture on which students i have to spend more time with in regards to the concept delivered.
As part of my teaching, I am using all three aspects of learning. Although it is distant learning, students have already participated in the three learning assessments, hence, some experiments provided may require them to work in pairs or groups. Their final work is presented individually. Learning Activities are done with immediate feedback, Activity Tests are given as well then followed by a Final Assessment for completing the course.
Bula Guys,
Greetings from the Coral Coast.
Assessment is vital of teaching and learning as it ultimately shows the effectiveness of lesson delivery and how well the students have mastered the concepts being taught.
In addition to this, the assessment of learning and assessment for learning were used regularly in the classroom to suit the different purposes. Exams were given priority compared to ongoing class-based assessments as it was believed to show the overall performance of a teacher.
As teachers we use all three assessments. Firstly, we use assessment for learning by asking questions on stories, or any other content taught in order to see if learners understand the content and gaps/misconceptions, which will then help me to see what I have to re-teach. Secondly, we use assessment of learning by giving learners a formative assessment in each term in order to test learners on content taught and see if they meet the objectives/standards for passing the grade. Assessment as learning is then done to help learners to be more independent and take control of their learning in order to achieve their goals.
As a teacher, I use all of those assessments of learning. Firstly I use assessment of learning to give feedback to my learners and also to see whether effective teaching and learning has taken, this will also help me plan for future instructions. Secondly I use assessment for learning to see how best I can support my learners, it allows me as the teacher to give immediate feedback which also enhances engagements in the classroom. Lastly, I use assessment as learning so that my learners feel empowered to take responsibility of their learning
I do all these forms of assessment because I believe that they all enable the teacher to gather evidence and make judgements of the learners performance.
Good evening fellow students
I am Audrey.
I am not sure if I’m at the right place, because all the comments I read, are from a few years back ???
Hi
I use more or less the same approach with Assessment. It is good to assess throughout the learning process. This way you can easily identify weak points or areas for improvement. I like to end my lessons with a couple of questions to recap and then the formal assessment will be at the end of a topic / theme.
Hi, everyone
I would like to think that I make use of all three forms, although that might not be true for every lesson.
When doing a novel for example, I will ask learners if they know anything about the author or the time in which the novel is set. Say the novel is about a girl being kidnapped in a drug world, I will have a class discussion on that specific topic. Learners will give their opinions and comment on each other’s answers.
At the end of the book, we will write a test on the content of the book, but learners will also have gained insight on real life situations.
In my teaching, I mostly use use Assessment for learning and Assessment as learning. I use quizzes, group work, and class discussions to check students’ understanding during lessons. This helps me know what to improve or explain better.
Yes, my approach has changed. Before, I mostly focused on Assessment of Learning, like final tests and exams. But now, I see the importance of helping students understand their own learning process. I try to give more feedback and encourage them to think about their learning.
