In our endeavor to understand the multifaceted needs of the youth in our community, my colleague and I embarked on a comprehensive analysis. Our discussions and consultations with employment surveys conducted by the Ministry of Labour revealed a striking demand for practical skills, digital literacy, and adaptability within an ever-evolving job market landscape. These insights formed the cornerstone of our curriculum design for open schooling.
The identified youth needs resonated with the pulse of the modern workforce. Digital literacy emerged as a fundamental requirement, encompassing proficiency in utilizing various digital tools and platforms. Entrepreneurial skills, including the knowledge necessary to initiate and manage businesses, stood out as a critical avenue for economic empowerment. Concurrently, the importance of IT proficiency, covering programming, web development, and software applications, was undeniable. Additionally, financial literacy, effective communication abilities, creative arts expertise, and knowledge about holistic health and wellness were recognized as essential life skills.
In response to these needs, we meticulously crafted a series of offerings for open schooling. The curriculum includes specialized courses tailored to bridge the identified skills gap. Digital Marketing and Social Media Management courses empower students with online marketing strategies and social media skills, aligning them with the digital demands of the contemporary market. Entrepreneurship Development modules delve deep into business planning, financial management, and legal aspects, fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship. IT and Programming Courses provide comprehensive coverage of web development, programming languages, and software applications, ensuring students are proficient in cutting-edge technologies.
Furthermore, recognizing the significance of financial acumen, we introduced Financial Literacy Workshops focusing on budgeting, investments, and financial planning. Professional Communication Classes enhance written and verbal communication skills, essential in navigating professional environments. Multimedia Production Courses offer comprehensive training in graphic design, video editing, and animation, catering to the burgeoning creative industry. Lastly, Health and Wellness Workshops provide a holistic understanding of physical and mental well-being, stress management, and nutrition, emphasizing the importance of a balanced lifestyle.
Our collaborative journey did not end with our initial list of offerings. Engaging with fellow students on the forum exposed us to diverse perspectives. Some peers emphasized the value of traditional trades such as plumbing and carpentry, underscoring their relevance in specific contexts. This insight prompted us to incorporate Basic Carpentry and Plumbing courses, enriching our curriculum with vocational dimensions.
It is important that youths can acquire skills based on their interest so that they can develop skills necessary for employment. The following skills are provided to youths so that they can be successful which includes different vocational learning.

It can also include environmental education focusing on climate change courses and financial education courses where youths can learn how to manage the money wisely. It would cater for the need of diverse learners and youth who can learn different skills from which they can be employed.

Youth is a time frame between childhood and adulthood. Inclusion of the period, when the person is young. As observed, some students are not good academically but they are very good in terms of extra activities such as: athlete, gardening / farming, artistic, carpentering work, etc. Thus, characteristics in terms of their life needs: every young people are looking for good education, good job and good luxurious future. To achieve a successful life: firstly, youth need to think higher / broad but instead they are more dependable on internet searching (copy and paste – easy work), just with the purpose of getting the task complete. Secondly, they need to focus on their ability, for instance, if they are good in artistic work, they should use internet and study by using drawing. Thirdly, they have to organized well and manage their time wisely. Time management will help achieve greater prioritization. Lastly, resources in school: there should be enough and suitable resources available in school that could allow young ones to enjoy the service and practice their skills.

There are a total of 923 schools in Fiji and government is providing free education for all students. Thus, it is young ones responsibility to make use of the facilities given to them. However, vocational courses should be included in the curriculum with proper resources to cater for it. Vocational courses such as: farming during gardening classes.
Youth discipline. Youts in Fiji are spoiled their future due to easily available leagl drugs . Lack of moral values lsading to thug life and drug addiction.
