In Nigeria, open schooling is mainly done at tertiary education level. Hence, all the following programmes are offered including:
Tertiary Level Programmes Certificate in English Communication
Certificate in Education for Development
Certificate in Local Government Studies
Certificate in Early Childhood Development
Certificate in Community-Based Work with Children & Youth
Certificate in Business and Entrepreneurship
Diploma in Early Childhood and Pre-Primary Education
Diploma in Youth Development Work
Diploma in Education for Development
Diploma in Business and Entrepreneurship
Postgraduate Diploma in Open School Operations and Management
Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Community Development
On the contrary, the junior and senior secondary qualification are not offering open schooling. Therefore, the following programmes are not offered:
Junior Secondary School qualification; and
Senior Secondary School qualification
The challenges which learners who go through open schooling face when they wan to enrol in tertiary institutions in my Nigeria include:
(i) Non-recognition by most conventional tertiary institutions; and
(ii) Lack of National Policy on Open Schooling.
